Here is a complete step-by-step guide on reporting an online scam.

To report online fraud, either you can rush to the nearby police station and file a complaint, or you can visit the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, a digital platform developed for reporting cybercrimes. However, the victim should report the issue within 24 hours to efficiently track transactions. Ideally, the complaint should be registered ASAP.

How to Lodge a Online Scam Complaint From National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal

If you are a victim of online fraud, then you can report it by following these steps – 

Step 1 – Open any browser and head to https://cybercrime.gov.in or click here.

Step 2 – On the homepage, click the “REPORT CYBER CRIME” option.

Step 3 – Two options will appear after clicking the “REPORT CYBER CRIME” button. Choose any of the two based on your issue.

Step 4 – Then click on the “File a complaint” option.

Step 5 – Read all the terms and conditions carefully and click the “I Accept” button.

Step 6 – A form like this will appear; fill it carefully with all the relevant details.

How to Report an Online Scam From National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Step 7 – Fill the captcha and submit the form.

Step 8 – On the next page, enter the details you want to report. The form has four sections: General Information, Victim Information, Cybercrime Information, and Preview. Fill in the details.

Step 9 – After reviewing the information, click on the submit button. 

Step 10 – You will be redirected to a new webpage where you will be asked to provide details and supporting evidence of the crime, such as screenshots or files. After entering the details, hit ‘Save and Next’.

Step 11 – After this,  a new page will open where you will be asked to fill in the details of the alleged suspects.

Step 12 – Check the information and click the “Submit” button.

Step 13 – Soon, you will receive a message and email confirming that your complaint has been registered. Both messages and emails will have a complaint ID and other essential details for tracking the complaint status.

While filing a cyber fraud case associated with online transactions, lottery scams, online job scams, and internet banking scams, attach the proof of transactions and the transaction ID.
