The Confidential Meeting: Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla Motors, Sundar Pichai, an Indian-originated American Business Executive and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, had a confidential gathering. The meeting was held with the Lawmakers at Capitol Hill with the agenda of superintending AI (Artificial Intelligence).

The sudden popularity of Artificial Intelligence around the globe has also exploded in investment, which has been a reason for concern which is why the lawmakers had a meeting behind the doors to alleviate the issue. The entire fuss about AI started after Open AI’s ChatGPT chatbot launched. 

When asked by the reporters for Confidential Meeting, Elon said that the meeting was to ensure the invulnerable use of AI, he further added the meetup was a “service to humanity”. Musk also reported that “AI is a double-edged sword”

When asked, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, stated that “Congress should engage with AI to support innovation and safeguards. This is an emerging technology, there are important equities to balance here, and the government is ultimately responsible for that”. Mark stated his concern on the matter “better that the standard is set by American companies that can work with our government to shape these models on important issues”.

The lawmakers voiced that there was general agreement on the need for government regulation on the AI threat, but the solution to this is still unclear and might take time.

“Are we ready to go out and write legislation? Absolutely not,”…. “We’re not there”, Mike Rounds, Republican Senator, said.

The co-host of this Confidential Meeting and also a Republic Senator Todd Young said showing his concern,” getting to the point where I think committees of jurisdiction will be ready to begin their process of considering legislation”.

The lawmakers want protection against probably dangerous counterfeits such as fake videos, election interference, and attacks on critical infrastructure. Further on this issue Musk and all the other executives decided to take a six-month pause on creating something more outrageous than OpenAI’s GPT-4, which can be concerning. 

The commitments announced in July aim to ensure that the AI’s power is not used for destructive purposes. Google, Microsoft, and Open AI signed on in July. The White House is also set to draft an executive order on AI.
