Design- Best TV in India 2022

Samsung AUE70, LG UP 7720, Hisense Tornado, VU Action Cinema, and Nokia TV have a thin-bezel design with plastic bodies and plastic frames whereas Mi TV 5X or Redmi TV has a metal frame. These 4K TVs have a 60Hz refresh rate but Mi TV 5X and Nokia 4K TV have MEMC tech capped at 60 FPS.

We used Hisense Vivid TV which is the same as Hisense Tornado, VU Action Cinema, and VU Premium as they have the same panel. Hisense is the manufacturer of all these TVs. Their panel is exactly the same. Their picture quality is also the same.

Panels- Best TV in India 2022

Samsung TV, Hisense TV, Mi TV 5X, and Nokia TV have 8-bit FRC VA DLED panels but LG 7720 has an IPS panel and 7500 has a VA panel. This is their peak HDR brightness. Xiaomi never discloses which panel it ships but mostly you get a VA panel. Mi TV 5X or Redmi TV mostly comes with a VA panel. Their peak HDR brightness is 275 nits.

Picture Quality- Best TV in India 2022

We analyzed their picture quality by playing the same content on all the TVs. We kept the backlight at 100% and the brightness at 50%. According to us, Samsung and LG produce better colours than Hisense TV and Nokia TV. We will put Nokia TV in the fourth position in terms of picture quality.

Mi TV 5X has vivid colours.  Xiaomi uses vivid picture engine technology which oversaturates red and green colours. This is actually good for people who watch Indian soaps. Redmi TV and Mi TV 5X are the same TVs. Only their branding is different. It is just like a mobile brand that sells the same mobile under different brand names.

Performance of Blacks- Best TV in India 2022

There is a vast difference in the performance of their blacks. Samsung is on number 1, Hisense on number 2, LG on number 3, and Nokia TV is on number fourth position. Redmi TV is in neck-to-neck competition with LG TV. Xiaomi has made commendable efforts in the picture quality of the Mi TV 5X and despite low brightness, its colours and blacks are good.

Despite low brightness, its performance is equal to LG UP 7500. Their Netflix performance is good but once again, Nokia is on the number as its picture quality is not that good.

Operating Systems- Best TV in India 2022

Samsung has Tizen OS, LG has web OS & Hisense, VU, Mi TV 5X and Nokia has Android OS. Android 9 (Hisense & VU), Android 10 (Mi TV or Redmi) and Android 11 (Nokia) have the same user interface. Google OS will be there. Looks are the same. Content will be displayed in the same way in all Android OS.

Storage- Best TV in India 2022

Once again Nokia TV is number due to its less storage. LG and Samsung TVs have lesser RAM & storage as their OS is different. Storage is not required in these TVs as apps can’t be downloaded from outside just like Android OS. This can be managed with Amazon firestick, Realme stick, or Mi TV box.

Nokia’s skin on Android 11 is very heavy and its actual storage is 7.5 GB (less). The skin is buggy. Amazon Prime’s bug has not been resolved till now. USB can’t be directly read and a file manager is required in order to read USB.

Audio Quality- Best TV in India 2022

We buy a TV to watch it. Audio TV can be improved via soundbar or speaker but the picture quality can’t be improved. That is why we always lay more stress on picture quality rather than the audio quality. These are the audio outputs. Hisense Tornado & VU Action TV have 102/100W built-in soundbar but don’t expect much from it. The output of a 100W soundbar purchased separately is far better.

However, it sounds good. Mi TV 5X is also satisfactory with 50W & 58W soundbar and speaker set. Hisense Tornado, VU Action, Mi TV 5X, and Nokia TV with Onkyo soundbar have satisfactory audio. However, Samsung & LG have average audio. For cinematic experience, a separate speaker or a home theatre is a must.

Connectivity options- Best TV in India 2022

HDMI eARC port is missing in Hisense & VU. The eARC port in other TVs is not properly functional. However, Dolby Atmos can be directly decoded via them. LG TV and Mi TV 5X have Auto Low Latency Mode. Gamers can connect their gaming console and get ALLM via HDMI 2.1 eARC port. Gamers who play PS4, PS5 or XBOX should buy any one TV out of them both to enjoy gaming.

It depends on your budget. We think picture quality is another important aspect. After reading about their picture quality, you would realize that Samsung is the brightest with good picture quality. On number two is LG. How are they so bright even at lower peak HDR brightness? Why is Hisense not that bright despite its more peak HDR brightness? It is because budget brands don’t have good quality backlights whereas even the budget TVs of premium brands have good backlight LEDs.

The picture quality of Samsung crystal pro or Crystal is the same. They have the best blacks but not the best colours. Its colours are a bit dull. However, LG has amazing colours and is very close to the natural colour profile but it doesn’t have the best blacks. LG UP 7720 and 7750 have IPS panels which are good if you have a bright room or if there is more sunlight in your room. Samsung has a VA panel which is good for rooms with lower lights.

Hisense and VU are the same TVs just with different branding. It has good colours and blacks but they are not the best. Samsung has the best blacks and LG has the best colours. Hisense lies in between. Hisense and VU have Dolby Vision support. Samsung and LG lack Dolby Vision support. Tornado and VU Action Cinema have good audio quality. You will enjoy Netflix in Hisense and VU.

Mi TV 5X has better colors as they are over-saturated which makes them bright and they also pop out. Mi TV 5X has 275 nits brightness. If it had been more, then Mi TV 5X would have been unbeatable. Nevertheless, the Mi TV 5X is good if you want bright colors even at low brightness. Everything said for Mi TV 5X, also applies to Redmi TV as they are the same TVs.

We recommend buying Redmi TV or Mi TV 5X as they both are the same except for far-field microphones (given in Mi TV 5X). In comparison to others, Nokia has the most average colors, average blacks, and lowest brightness. In our testing, the brightness was 330 nits which is more in comparison to Mi TV 5X but while comparing them side by side, Nokia TV is dull. It is due to Xiaomi’s color reproduction.

We don’t recommend Nokia TV in comparison to these TVs. The clarity and picture upscaling of HD and SD channels are amazing in all TVs. HD channels are more enjoyable than SD channels in all sizes of TVs. The choice is absolutely yours.
