JBL SB190 Review – JBL Dolby Atmos Soundbar:

We bought this JBL soundbar to make JBL SB190 Review as it was popular news that this JBL soundbar has a little integration of the Harman curve.

What is a Harman curve?

Harman curve is a type of sound signature admired by everyone. Power distribution to low, mid, and high notes vary among various brands. But when it is done most accurately, then the Harman curve is formed. Such a kind of sound signature is fancied by everyone, be it rock listeners or be it ghazal listeners.

Looks:

It is sleek and stylish. In the front is a grey mesh grill and the top is a Piano black plastic look that looks premium. Touch controls are also given on top.

Specs and Output:

In the front are 2×3.5 inch full-range speakers along with 2×1.25 inch tweeters. The wireless subwoofer that comes along is a 6.5-inch down-firing subwoofer. The total output of this soundbar is 180W and that of the subwoofer is 200W. Therefore the total output is 380W.

It has 2 HDMI ports (1 eARC and 1  HDMI IN port), 1 USB port (songs can’t be played with it), and 1 optical port. It supports Bluetooth 5.1.

You can never get the actual atmos from small soundbars or speaker sets until you get ceiling speakers that throw sound from above. Soundbars are compact and hence they can’t give actual Atmos. Low notes (bass), mid notes (vocals), and high notes (trebles) are delivered amazingly.

JBL is now a Harman brand. The full-range drivers deliver all kinds of frequencies. But does it matter if you have a tweeter and a subwoofer too? Of course, it does!

Testing:

• The first song we recorded was ‘Pasoori’ and this soundbar plays it melodiously. The audio quality it gives is fantastic. The lower and upper bass is played beautifully. Both the bass i.e lower bass (ground to up) and upper bass (felt at heart) can be felt from this soundbar simultaneously.
• The second song is the ‘Hamma’ song and this soundbar leaves a magical effect by giving a surround effect. This is achievable only because of these drivers present in this soundbar.
• This soundbar decodes Dolby Atmos by attaching it to the TV. We played a movie clip and as result, we notice the sound in the action scene coming from all four directions. You will feel the surround which is made possible by tweeters and drivers. Try to listen to it by sitting in the center as then you will observe the sound coming from all directions. This soundbar gives virtual atmos but even that virtual atmos is superb.

Intelligent Soundbar:

It is an intelligent soundbar, particularly the subwoofer. The bass of this soundbar is different from the bass of other budget soundbars. Giving bass is a piece of cake for both soundbars as well as a subwoofer. But the tricky thing is to produce clarity in that bass.

It is difficult to decide how much bass should be given to each frequency and this is called a frequency chart. The power distribution in this soundbar is amazing. It starts giving bass from 40Hz. You will hear even the slightest bass on the lowest volumes. You can enjoy songs from all genres. To differentiate between various frequencies is the most difficult task and this is the best part of this sound soundbar.

Remote control- JBL SB190 Review

• Remote control comes with a dedicated button for Dolby Atmos. It can be switched on/off from the remote. Another button is for bass. After pressing a bass button, you get more sound from the subwoofer. We didn’t like that response as we found it an artificial base.

• The second button is the voice button that gives clarity like that at night. The bass goes lower and vocals and dialogues are more clear. This is a good feature to have.
• After connecting Amazon Firestick 4K with HDMI IN port and then choosing HDMI IN option, then Amazon Firestick’s OS will play rather than the TV’s Android OS. You can also get the HDR passthrough via HDMI IN port. This is wonderful in this price range.

Cons:

1. This soundbar comes with a down-firing subwoofer. If you have tiles on the floor, then avoid this soundbar. This soundbar will ruin your experience if you have a tiled floor. Go ahead with this soundbar for any kind of floor except tiles. Down-firing subwoofers don’t give good bass on vitrified surfaces.

2. There is no display on this soundbar. A fancy display would have been preferable rather than reading the manual all over again.

There is no issue in high notes due to the presence of tweeters.
